Movies

Today’s song of the day:

Makin a Movie – Ne-yo

Today was the first time in a LONG time that I actually went to a movie theater, and let me tell you, I don’t remember hating it so much. I suppose I should start from the beginning. I have been wanting to see The Avengers for a loooong time, cuz I love me some good ol fashion Epic super hero movies, and Iron Man gave me high expectations (meaning I liked Iron Man in particular, he’s like the Gregory house, everyone’s loveable douchebag, super hero edition), plus EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE, was talking about how good it was.

*I am Tyler's sense of "O we're f"d"*

And as much as I liked it thought it was ok, there were just two parts of the movie that still really bother me:

  1. When the avengers ask Bruce Banner how he kept from having an “incident”, he said he’s always angry, right before punching a giant fish alien that flies… How does that work… Anyone?
  2. The other part that really bothered me (SPOILER ALERT) is after Iron Man falls back to earth after entering the other realm, how does a screaming hulk all of a sudden revive his mini arc reactor of a heart… some one please tell me how these work.

Now granted these two issues don’t really affect the story in general, but they were just so beyond ridiculous that they sort of detracted from the movie a little bit, which was unfortunate. (Man this makes me sound old, caring about how logical a movie is).

Anyways, the real motivation for why I wanted to write a post on movies was the absolute ridiculous pricing of the theater in general. As I said, I haven’t been to the theater in FOREVER, I went up and asked for a “student” ticket. The lady at behind the bullet proof glass (and yes I know it’s bullet proof cuz I tried to…. after she told me how my total for 1 movie ticket) was like, we don’t do student tickets any more. In fact, at prime hours, they don’t even do KIDS tickets anymore! WTH.

*Psh, I don't $10 movie ticket love my kid*

At this point in time, I’m having a hard time figuring out who is nickle and diming us worse, the airlines or the movie theaters. I mean seriously, you want ME, to pay $7 for a bag of popcorn?? Liz, take it away…

*Ironic that I'm using the term hipster to describe the money making tactics of the movie industry*

Three reasons why this is just BEYOND ridiculous:

a) cuz a box of 3 bags of pop corn is less than $3 at the grocery store (Price is Right FTW)

b) it takes me a yr to eat the other two bags after I buy it for “movie night”

c) I can’t even find people who would take free unpopped bags of popcorn. I mean seriously, have you ever tried giving that stuff away, even IF someone takes it, it just ends up sitting on THEIR shelf for a year instead of yours! And AMC is charging me $7 for the stuff?!

Also I just realized that by charging me $10 for my movie ticket and $7 for me popcorn, that either I’m totally just robbing the grocery store by paying $1 for a bag of popcorn, or that my movie ticket is over priced and really worth $1 (anyone else every compared the price of a Mcdonald’s burger and a cheese burger to try to figure out the real cost of Mcdonalds food? Or was I just a weird kid?).

*I blame all of my oddities on my upbringing*

Well I was going to start talking about how unimaginative these new movies are (seriously, only like 10% of new movies are of a new original idea, 90% are sequels or prequels now), but this post is getting long, so that will be saved for another day. O and yes, I must voice just how beyond stupid, ridiculous that a movie called “Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter” even exists, let alone got made.

On a side note, I am going to Taiwan for a month starting next week, so plan for more of a longer lapse between posts than usual, I will be writing posts, but may not have access to the internet to be able to post them up. But they’ll be posted on FB if any go up, so keep checking and follow us on twitter too! Thanks, and pace!
